This specialised tour with your experienced guide, includes:
- pick up and drop off from the ship (tours are tailored to suit ship arrival and departure times)
- gourmet packed lunch
- interactive commentaries, fact sheets, jackets and binoculars provided
- a hilltop drive from Port Chalmers to Dunedin with spectacular views and historic sights
- city sightseeing including Dunedin’s heritage buildings and the world’s steepest street
- scenic tour along the Otago Peninsula, with spectacular harbour and ocean views
- wading birds; amongst the many species able to be viewed are oyster catchers, stilts, paradise ducks, herons, royal spoonbills, black swans and pukekos
- a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin reserve at Penguin Place. This rugged and wild coastline is the natural home of the Yellow Eyed Penguin, the rarest penguin in the world found only on the south east coast of NZ
- our local Maori Marae
- board mv Monarch for our wildlife cruise to see the exciting diversity of wildlife which abounds on spectacular Taiaroa Head; the only mainland nesting place for Northern Royal Albatross in the world, and home to N Z fur seals, and eight other nesting bird species. You may also see dolphins, sea lions and a fascinating array of rarely seen ocean birds including other species of albatross, penguins and marine mammals in their natural environment
- a scenic harbourside drive back to Dunedin
- if time allows a stop at Dunedin’s famous “Speights” Alehouse, (you might like a drop of Dunedin’s world renown beer) to round off your visit to our Scottish city, prior to return to the ship at Port Chalmers.

A tour of Larnach Castle, one of Dunedin’s landmarks; built in 1871, privately owned, restored back to its former glory and surrounded by beautiful gardens, can be included and replaces the hilltop drive to city via Baldwin St.
