C/S OPTION 2:
OTAGO PENINSULA BUS TOUR:
Hop aboard our mini bus shortly after disembarking your ship. Journey along the Otago Peninsula high road, with great views down the Otago Harbour and out across the rugged coastline with its beautiful sandy beaches. You’ll travel past rolling farmland and forest before arriving at the historic Larnach Castle estate.
LARNACH CASTLE TOUR:
Your guide will take you on a wonderful journey back in time, on a personal tour of New Zealand's castle, built in 1871.
See the magnificent carved ceilings, antiques and craftsmanship. Hear the scandalous, exciting and tragic history of Larnach Castle and William Larnach who took his own life with a single shot to the head. Climb the parapets for 360° views, and enjoy the beauty of the gardens of international significance.
Following the guided tour you will have time to personally explore or revisit areas of the castle before meeting back with the bus & guide and continuing along the scenic Otago Peninsula roads.
MONARCH WILDLIFE CRUISE:
Towards the end of the peninsula your bus will come to a stop at the site of an old whaling station. Its here you will hop aboard our boat and join a fantastic Wildlife Cruise.
The skipper will take you to see the majestic royal albatross, who soar on massive three metre wingspans. Using our complimentary binoculars you’ll have uninterrupted views of their hillside nesting colony, the only mainland colony in the world! Large populations of NZ furseals call this area home and we frequently spot them in the water and on rocky outcrops close to the boat. Out at sea we spot a variety of different albatross and seabirds - sometimes we spot penguins, dolphins and other marine mammals.
Will I have a chance to buy food?
There is time to quickly buy a hot drink and snack from the castle cafe. Please be aware that it will be quite busy with a cruise ship in town - we recommend having a big breakfast!
Can I take this tour if I have limited mobility?
Unfortunately no, the tour of Larnach Castle involves several fights of stairs and no lifts. Please contact us if you are unsure.
Should I wear a jacket? Is it cold?
Dress warm for the day and be sure to have sturdy footwear. It will be slightly colder and windier on the water. We have complimentary jackets aboard the boat if you require them.
What if my cruise ship doesn’t arrive on time?
We will arrange a full refund if your ship doesn’t arrive for some reason, on time, or at all… Please see our cancellation policy for more info.
