DUNEDIN ON A
Welcome to the Wildlife Capital of NZ!
We have designed three different tour options suited to the arrival and departure times of cruise ships visiting Dunedin. All three options include a pickup & dropoff service from your ship. They also feature a bus tour along the scenic roads of the Otago Peninsula. You’ll travel in either an eleven or twenty two seater van with an expert local driver. Your guide will give a fully interactive commentary during your journey.
All tours feature our award-winning, one hour Wildlife Cruise.
If you’re looking to add more to your day then check-out options 2 & 3. These tours include visits to the historic Larnach Castle or the Penguin Place conservation reserve.
Follow the links to find out more about each tour.
We recommend all visitors to Dunedin read the visitor information listed below; it is all about what happens when you arrive by cruise ship.
What happens when your ship arrives in Dunedin?
Your ship will cruise in through the entrance of the Otago Harbour and continue travelling for approximately 40 min. It will then berth at a busy container and log port, the historic Port Chalmers. This small township is a 15 minute drive from the central city of Dunedin.
Once you disembark your ship it is roughly a 150 metre walk to the cruise ship terminal. Inside the terminal you will see a visitor information centre and displays featuring different local tours and products. The staff inside this building can help you with any questions you may have.
At this point you have three main options:
1. Join a private tour or experience organised by local tourism operators.
2. Purchase a return ticket for the shuttle into the city of Dunedin, or book a private taxi.
3. Continue outside and explore the Port Chalmers township.
We offer three different tours that focus on the spectacular Otago Peninsula. They all depart from the ‘Private Tours Area’ at 10:00am. These tour options have been designed to suit the arrival and departure times of your ship, maximizing your viewing opportunities with the time you have in Dunedin.
Tours can be booked on the day from the iSite visitor centre within the terminal, however we recommend pre-booking before your arrival. Use our online system or call us free on 0800 666 272.
Spaces are limited, and with up to 5000 people disembarking from one or two different ships we often sell out.
Once you’ve booked a tour with us, you’ll need to report to the ‘Private Tours Area’ within the terminal at 10:00am. Our guide will meet you there holding a sign with the Monarch logo and your name printed on it. Then your day of exploration begins!
