WILDLIFE CRUISE + OTAGO HARBOUR CRUISE + OTAGO PENINSULA BUS TOUR
Travel the length of New Zealand’s most picturesque harbour aboard the MV Monarch. Our skipper will take you past Careys Bay - a historic fishing village, the busy wharves of Port Chalmers and past the beautiful bays, hills, farmland and forest that surround the Otago Harbour. You’ll learn about the harbour’s volcanic geology and its Maori and European history. Take in the sights with a drink or snack from our fully licensed galley.
Continue on our fascinating Wildlife Cruise which travels around Taiaroa Head located at the entrance to the Otago Harbour. Enjoy uninterrupted views of the only mainland nesting place of Northern Royal Albatross in the world. We will take you close to the base of dramatic cliffs and rocky outcrops whilst you watch the NZ Furseals play and swim near their breeding colonies. A short cruise out at sea and you can spot rarely seen ocean birds including other albatross species and petrels. Occasionally we spot NZ sealions, blue penguins, dusky & hectors dolphins and other marine mammals.
During the summer months this tour also includes a scenic bus tour one-way along the Otago Peninsula. Hear stories of sea creatures and early settlers as you travel past quaint little townships and rolling farmland. Keep an eye out your window for great views of the harbour and rugged coastline.

Can I purchase food during my tour?
We have a fully licensed bar which stocks a range of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of snack items. If you want something more substantial we recommend pre-packing a lunch to bring with you.
What happens with bad weather?
It is rare for us to cancel our trips, we are lucky to travel in fairly sheltered areas. The windy, cool “bad weather” days are often the best conditions for watching albatross soar. They love a cold southerly wind and don’t stop for rain! If we do cancel, you’ll be refunded or rescheduled.
