MONARCH WILDLIFE CRUISE:
Drive to Wellers Rock Wharf and hop aboard a 60 minute Wildlife Cruise. Enjoy the stunning scenerey and watch as royal albatross soar and NZ fur seals play from the comfort of your sturdy vessel. You might be lucky and spot a NZ sealion, dusky & hectors dolphins or a blue penguin swimming in the water. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

PENGUIN PLACE TOUR:
Join a special 90 minute walking tour through the Penguin Place conservation reserve. Your guide will explain why these beautiful birds are now so endangered and also take you through their on-site rehabilitation centre. A short bus through working farmland will take you in to the reserve. You may be required to walk up to a kilometre and climb up to 90 steps to different viewing hides and vantage points. From here you’ll have a great chance to see the penguins return ashore and interact around their nests.

Please note:
You are required to drive yourself to each location. This is a self-drive option.
If you need transportation, check-out our half day or premium full day tours.

FAQ:

How do the bookings work?
The tour time you’re selecting is the departure time for the Wildlife Cruise - once the booking is completed our staff will book you on the next available Penguin Place tour and then email you confirmation of times & directions.

How many penguins will I see?
Numbers of birds will vary depending on the season and breeding cycle. With only 250 breeding pairs left on the South Island we are very lucky to see these rare birds in the wild. Afternoon tours will generally see at least one penguin, sometimes more during the breeding months.

How can I support the conservation work?
A portion of your ticket price goes directly back to ongoing efforts to help rehabilitate sick birds, plant new native trees and trap predators.
